"I was born to two loving parents Erick Bernhardt Carlson and Amelia Charlotte Becker in 1916 July 29. They were married in 1913. I was born on the Carlson Farm in Jefferson County Township Grant Idaho. I had two brothers Leonard Henry born in 1914 and Reynold Bernard in 1918. Two sisters Vivian in 1920 and Leola in 1921."
Mabel lived to be just three months short of 105 years old. She was a very independent woman who was destined to raise her two teenage children by herself after losing her loving husband, Herman William Bluhm in 1970 when she was just 54 years of age. She vigorously went to work to support herself and her children for the first time in her married life. Mabel shared a life-long friendship and companionship with her daughter Janet that lasted until she lost her to cancer in 2012.
Mabel met her husband Bill at church when he was in Idaho on business. They married at the Carlson Family farm and were together for 19 years. Throughout her life she faithfully dedicated her time and efforts to her church and all activities that could benefit from her attention. She was conscientious of the small details and took great pride in bringing the highest standards to all her responsibilities.
Mabel enjoyed word search puzzles and she tracked the paths of every hurricane in Florida during her time living there. She was fiercely independent and was still driving herself until the age of 96. She asked little from others and was immensely grateful for everything she received in life. But most of all, Mabel always stressed the need for kindness and compliments for everyone she knew and loved.
