Born December 20, 1942 in Marfrance WV, he was the son of the late Jesse Kenneth Lay, Sr. and Mary Louise Small Lay.
Jess was a caring and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, who loved the Lord and always walked in faith. He was self employed for 25 years. During his younger years, he was a fan of racing and later in life, he found joy by working around the house and relaxing on the porch on summer evenings. Jesse was a member of the Maple Fork Baptist Church for over 20 years and was a devoted Christian. He was a member of the MacDonald Warren Lodge #103 and Winolia Chapter #59 OES.
He is preceded in death by brother, John William Lay.
Those left to cherish his wonderful memory include his wife and best friend of 56 years, Kay Wygal Lay; daughter, Lesley Lay Phillips and husband Joey; son, Casey Lay and wife Rebecca; grandchildren, Sydney Phillips, Tess Phillips, Austin Fraley, Hunter Fraley, Summer Fraley, and Mason Lay; great granddaughter Kaylee Fraley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 4, 2022 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with burial to follow at Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville, WV.
Visitation for friends will be from 11:00AM to1:00 PM at the funeral home in Mount Hope.
Pallbearers will be Joey Phillips, Tess Phillips, Bobby Acord, Jerry Acord, Hunter Fraley, Austin Fraley, and Mason Lay.
