The angels of heaven rejoiced on the evening of December 12th when Herman Ard went to be with his Lord, he was 80 years old. Born to the late William L. and Pinkey Ard, Mr. Ard moved to Port St Joe in 1949 and began his career with the St. Joe Paper Company. He was called away for a short period of time to serve our country in the Korean war, but then returned to raise his family and make this his lifelong home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Spann Ard. He retired from St. Joe Paper in 1996, he was the lab supervisor. Shortly after realizing the boredom of retirement, he began working as the school crossing guard for Port St. Joe High School. Mr. Ard was an avid Shark fan. He loved the children of the community and proudly wore the purple and gold. His most proud moment was the 1997 State championship baseball win with his grandson, Ryan, pitching the winning game. Mr. Ard was very well known in the community. His family owned and operated a local flower shop for many years. He was also very active in his church, Oak Grove Assembly of God. He delivered meals to the shut-ins through the church food ministry until his recent illness. He was always known for his kind nature and constant smile. His love for his family, friends and community was evident in his everyday life, he was a friend to all, young and old. He is survived by his son, Tim Ard of Freeport, his daughter. Jacque Ard-Yeager and husband Warren of Port St. Joe, his Grandchildren Kelli Yeager- Combs and husband Robert of Port St. Joe, Ryan Yeager and wife Bridgette of Lynn Haven, Ashton Ard-Larson and husband Nick of Crestview, and Abby Ard of Port St. Joe, and his great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jackson Combs and R.J. and Drew Yeager. He also leaves behind a very special friend and companion, Inell Stutzman of Port St. Joe, a brother, Oakland Ard and wife Jackie of Jay, a sister, Versie Ard of DeFuniak Springs, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and lifelong friends. A time of visitation will be held at the Oak Grove Assembly of God on Friday, December 14th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 15th, at 11:00 A.M. EST, also at the Oak Grove Assembly of God. Internment will follow in the family plot at Holly Hill Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Robert Combs, Jacob Combs, Nick Larson, Ryan Yeager, Ronnie Ard & Freddie Ard.
