Alfred Thomas Mixon, 81, of Panama City, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at a local hospital. He was born on December 19, 1925 in Bonifay, Florida and moved to Panama City in the 1930s. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 and the Panama City National Guard from 1946-1962. He worked at Style Line Barber Shop and Carswell's Marina Barber Shop. He was with the Highway Patrol and Sheriff's Auxiliaries. He had been a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church since 1954. He was also a member of the Acme Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. #222 of Florida, United Commercial Travelers and American Legion. He was a charter board member for the Rescue Mission. He volunteered at Daffin Park Senior Citizen as security escort on Thursday nights. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Janice Joyner Mixon; two sons, Gerald Mixon and his wife Trudie, of Pace, FL; Donald Mixon and his wife Jenny, of Tallahassee; five grandchildren, Melanie Steele, Grady Mixon, Sterling Mixon, Grayson Mixon and Taylor Mixon; two step grandchildren, Carla Kirkland-Philipp and Carl Kirkland; three step great grandchildren, Jordan Green, Ashton Green and Samantha Philipp; brother, Alkus Mixon, of Panama City. He was preceded in death by his parents; Grady and Cassie Mixon; sister, Nelle Mauldin and brother, Jessie Mixon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated, but those desiring to may make memorial donations to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405 or to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 216 College Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Alfred Mixon.
