Virginia Alice Phillips

June 18, 1938 - February 2, 2022

Mother, sister, grandmother, friend. Virginia gained her angel wings early Wednesday morning at PCH after suffering from long-term covid complications. Virginia was born in Crumpler, WV to the late Wirt Bailey and Sadie Bailey (Walker). Her stories of life in the country were plentiful, and she loved being "one of the boys" with her brothers. After her father died as a result of a coal mining accident, her mother married the late Otto Walker who, together with Sadie's, had 14 children. Virginia talked proudly of all her brothers and sisters and visited with them whenever she could. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald R. Phillips, and she is survived by her other eight children and their families: Nancy Kyle and husband Dan of Ohio; William (Billy) Phillips and wife Barb of Van, WV; Kathy Thomas and partner Dwayne Nicewander of Bluefield WV; Timothy (Timmy) Phillips of Princeton, WV; Cynthia (Cindy) Ramsey of Princeton, WV; Rachel Wiley and husband Gary of South Carolina; Connie Patricia (Patty) Holdren of Princeton, WV; Beverly Oviedo and husband Fernando of North Carolina. Her siblings and their families, brothers: Perry Eugene Bailey and wife Treva of Pennsylvania; and Jackie D. Bailey of North Carolina; and sister, Jewel Akel and Terry Brown of North Carolina; several grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Virginia was retired from the US Postal Service in Bluefield, WV. She enjoyed her job, and she cherished the friends she made while she was there. She would talk about them as if they were members of the family, and we all began to think of them as such.

Family was most important to her. She was fiercely dedicated to her family, loyal and steadfast in her support of her children. She was a role model for strong, independent women persevering through adversity, raising children, working hard, and living a faith-filled life.

A small service will be held at Seaver Funeral home in Princeton.
