Janet Nadine Crago, age 75, of Colorado Springs since 1977, passed away on Feb 3, 2022. Married to Tom Crago for 54 years, they raised two sons, George and Will Crago. When the boys went off to school, Janet also went back to school, graduating from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs with an MBA. After several early years as an educator, Janet began a career in Information Systems Support, working primarily for Penrose/Centura Hospitals in Colorado Springs.
Janet lived an interesting and full life, living at different times, in Colorado, Kansas, Nigeria, and the Dominican Republic. She traveled extensively in the Americas, going throughout the USA and as far as the Arctic Circle, the Caribbean and Brazil. Other trips took her to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australia, to name just a few. It's hardly surprising that she developed a world view that understood and often embraced many cultural norms.
Janet will be most remembered for the many friends and family she's positively impacted over her lifetime of work and service. She and Tom retired in 2000 and spent much of the next fifteen years doing volunteer work in Nigeria and the Dominican Republic. And, for the past 15 years or so, she's also been an important part of the volunteer ministry teams at Beth-El Mennonite Church, demonstrating a real love for people, and showing sincere compassion for others in the face of trials and tribulations we all experience from time to time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Mildred (Brammell) Knackstedt and leaves husband, Tom, sons George (wife Michelle) and Will (wife also Michele), plus grandchildren Dominick (wife Kaylynne), Ashley Williamson (husband Nick), and Juniper, plus many extended family.
A Celebration of Life was held at Beth-El Mennonite Church, 4625 Ranch Drive, Colorado Springs 80918 on Friday, Feb. 11th, 2022 at 10 am. In 2015 they returned to Nigeria to serve as volunteers with the Nigeria Crisis Response, a joint effort of EYN, Global Mission, and Brethren Disaster Ministries. During this time, she blogged, wrote articles, and shared photographs of the experience of the Nigerian Brethren in one of the worst periods of violence during the Boko Haram insurgency.
