Jimmie Edward Byrd, 81 years old, passed away on Saturday September 14, 2007. He was born in Conway, AR on July 5, 1926. He married Alice Mae Long on January 12, 1952. He was a veteran of the 2nd Armored Division of the US Army. He owned and ran Jim's Barber Shop in downtown Mesa for over 20 years, then worked for Mesa Public Schools for 12 years. He was a past member of The Lion's Club, American Legion, and The Moose Club. Jimmie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice; his brother, Joe Byrd (Ed Scott); sons: Kenneth (Jackie) Byrd. Nicholas Byrd, Richard Byrd, and Jimmie (Tim Wong) Byrd; his daughter, Debi (Charles) Lynch; 9 grandchildren: Charles, Michael (Kathryn), Sarah, and Emily Lynch, and Jessie, Rosie, Brian, Aaron, and Elizabeth Byrd (Tanner Henry); numerous nieces and nephews as well as many others who only knew him as grandpa Jim. His last wish was to have great grandchildren. He was blessed with Makenna Lynch in March and Ashton Henry one week before his death. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday September 19, 2007 at 2:30 PM with a visitation beginning at 1:30 PM at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald in Mesa.
