Rites Held Thursday For Dora Thompson:
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy B. Thompson were held at the Vipond Funeral home in Grand Junction Thursday afternoon, Dec. 5, with Rev. Henry Schneck, pastor of the Grand Junction Presbyterian church officiating.
Audra Patterson served as organist for the rites. Casket bearers were Clark Ferguson, John Waters, Emory Terrill, John Watts, Alvin Swaney and Orval Curry. Burial was in the Junction Twp. Cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson died at the Greene county Hospital on Monday, Dec. 2; she had been in failing health for a number of months. She would have been 89 years old on Dec. 18.
Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of Benjamin and Melinda Guise. She was married to John F. Thompson in June, 1898. At that time they made their home in Jefferson, as Mr. Thompson was serving as Greene county sheriff.
To this union were born two children, Mrs. Everett Kelley of Alton, Ill., and a son Guise, who died in 1936. Her parents, two brothers and two sisters, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Alice Swartzendruver, Grand Junction, and Mrs. Estelle Lilves, Wichita, Kan., a brother, John Guise of Perry; her son's widow, Mrs. Orpha Thompson, Jefferson; three grandchildren, Stanley Thompson, Omaha, Neb., Richard Thompson, St. Louise, Mo., and Dorothy Kelley, Alton, Ill., also one greatgrandchild, Debra Thompson of Omaha, Neb.
In 1903, Mrs. Thompson and her husband moved to Grand Junction, where they established their home, and owned and operated a general store. Following Mr. Thompson's death in 1913 she continued managing the store and caring for their two small children.
