NILES -- Kenneth R. King, 79, of Florence Avenue, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday (Nov. 4, 2005) at Riveridge Manor, Niles, after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 28, 1926, in North Liberty, Ind., to Marvin and Edna (Ransbottom) King. He married Burnace L. Anderson on Feb. 19, 1947, in Walkerton. She survives, along with three daughters, Barbara King of Kentwood, Mich., Mary Ann King of Niles and Glenna Johnson of Elkhart; a son, Ken King of Niles; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey King, in 1958, and a brother, Donald King, during World War II. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Halbritter Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Niles. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fulkerson Park Baptist Church, Niles, with pastor Brian G. Hedges officiating. A flag presentation will close the funeral service. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Mr. King formerly was employed by B&G Construction in Mishawaka. He also was employed by Studebaker, Casteel and as a youth, on the railroad. He was a member of Fulkerson Park Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II, earning a Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post 26, Niles, the VFW Post in Niles, Local 645 Laborers and HOD Carriers Welfare Fund. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
