Stanley Taylor (Jack) Awtrey passed away peacefully at the age of 98 years young at Hospice in Wichita Falls on February 10, 2022. There will be a graveside service for the family in the near future.
Jack was born March 15, 1923, to Burkett and O'Rilla (Penix) Awtrey on the farm in Village Bend, Texas, near Mineral Wells. He was preceded in death by his parents and five older sisters: Irene Gibson, Ernestine Olsen, Bonnie Wade, Donnie Woodward, and Mary Gregg. Jack attended Archer City and Wichita Falls schools, graduating from Old High in 1941. He was part of the Greatest Generation as he joined the Navy and served in WWII mostly in the Philippines and Saipan toward the end of the war. He received a degree in petroleum engineering from Hardin College (MSU) due to the GI bill and then married Gloria (Kuntz) Bolling. Jack began his career with Phillips 66 and remained with the company until he retired. Jack and Gloria had two children, Jay and Diana. Jack then married Dixie Dolores Thompson of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. They had a blended family of Patty, Mary, Charlotte, Dolores, and one child together, Anthony Awtrey. All much loved by Papa Jack!
Jack excelled in ballroom dancing and bridge during his life. He truly enjoyed his time at Rolling Meadows for the last 17 years and always told everyone that all of the employees there "treated him like a king."
He is survived by son Jay Awtrey (wife Becky) of Wichita Falls, daughter Diana Bohuslav (husband Frank) of Wichita Falls, and son Anthony Awtrey (wife Hala) of Orlando, Florida. He leaves four bonus children, grandchildren Stephanie Smith (husband Shane), Kris Awtrey (wife Amanda) and Hanny and Heather Awtrey of Orlando, Florida, numerous great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
