Her Parents are Calvin Teatro and Vera Skaggs. She was married. She is survived by her husband, 2 daughters, 1 sister, 2 brothers, and 1 aunt. At time of her death she was living in Indian River, Michigan.

In Spring 2000 living in Indian River, Michigan, Janie received an Associates Degree in History at North Central Michigan College (NCMC) in Petoskey, Michigan, she also graduated "with distinction" Honors. Janie then entered an essay into and won, being awarded the Joseph W. McCarthy Memorial Essay Contest. Winning this Award sent her to Ireland for Fall 2000 College Semester at the Galway – Mayo Technical Institute in Galway, Ireland. Her essay was titled "Civil Disobedience of Robert Emmet Jr,". This Scholarship is a joint effort between the Robert Emmet Society and North Central Michigan College, this is only the 3rd time the Scholarship has been awarded since 1995.

While at the Galway – Mayo Institute she was an inspiration for all becoming the Leader in classes along with motivating other students to do their best. Also in Ireland she was able to research into her Irish ancestors and hereditary. After returning back home to Indian River, Michigan, Janie gave lectures and spoke to groups about her experience in College in Ireland and what she had learned there saying "I am not the same person I was when I went over." along with sharing the best of the photographs that she took while in Ireland.

Janie continued her education at Western Michigan University pursuing a degree in Archeology.

Summer 2002, we find Janie working as an Archeologist in Mackinaw City, Michigan at the historic Colonial Michilimackinac location which was a Fort when it was active when the area was being populated by the British, French, and Indigenous Tribal people of the region, along with the upraising "Americans".
