US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1896 and commenced law practice in Boston. During the Spanish-American War, he served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps and was discharged in 1898. From 1901 to 1905, he was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives and served as Lieutenant Governor, 1909 to 1911. During World War I, he served as a Major in the US Army and was a member of the State Commission to visit US troops in France in 1918. In 1921, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving until his death.
