Betty Ann Posey Gardner, age 92, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in Quarryville, PA of Covid-19 surrounded by her children at the time of her home-going .
Bettywas born to John Leonard Posey and Nellie Tingle Posey in Philadelphia, MS (Neshoba County). She graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, and taught school in Georgia, Mississippi, and at Wilmington Christian School in Hockessin Delaware. On June 21, 1953 she married Peyton Harris Gardner. They had 3 daughters, Kathryn Adams (Jon,) Martha Zeher (Mike), and Sarah Jane Gardner. Sarah Jane preceded her in death in 1969. A long- time member of Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday School, VBS, and was a vital member of several
church committees. She found great joy in being Mimi to 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Sarah Posey Smith and J'Nell Posey Coffman, by daughter Sarah Jane Gardner and by a niece, Deborah Coffman Juzwiak. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Peyton Harris Gardner, her daughters Kathryn Gardner Adams (Jon) and Martha Gardner Zeher (Mike), her 7 grandchildren, Ashley Ewer, Jenna Zeher, Sarah Peyton Hill, Peyton Zeher, Jordan Adams, Ben Zeher and Anne McPherson and 8 great-grandchildren.
A Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilm., DE 19803 on Friday, February 25, 2022 and from 9 to 10AM at Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1006 Wilson Rd., Wilm., DE 19803 on Saturday February 26, 2022 followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park. All are
welcome to lunch at the church following the interment.
