Joyce Agnes Haattvedt Tidwell was born on Sept 21 1926 at the Hallock, Minnesota Hospital to Arthur and Grace Haattvedt. She was baptized and confirmed at the Eidsvold Luthern Church In Halma, Minnesota. the family lived just outside of Halma, Minnesota. Joyce graduated from nearby Karlstad, Mn. high School. In 1944 after graduation she entered The Grand Forks School of Nursing at the Deconess Hospital and accepted a position at that Hospital as a cadet Nurse. In 1947 she graduated and continued to work at deaconess Hospital until 1948. She then headed for the west coast and took a Position at Fort Miley veterans Hospital in San Francisco, Calif. after 3 years of service in July of 1951 she enlisted in the US Air Force Nurses Corps with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In March of 1953 she was assigned to duty in Alaska where she served until 1954 when she returned to the states and finished her service at Travis Air force Base. she was honorably discharged from the Air force on Oct 21st 1954. She was a Nurse in the Public health service at Sacramento until the next summer when she was transferred to the Kasier Foundation Hospital in San Francisco, Calif where she was employed until the time of her death. She was a very ambitious young Woman and worked very hard at her profesion.
Joyce Haattvedt was married to George Tidwell on Feb 13, 1955. They were Killed together in a car crash near Sacramento, Calif. on Sept 15, 1956. It was a Multiple car accident and total of 7 people died. George and Joyce Tidwell were buried near his home town of Fort Perice, Florida. she was 5 days short of her 30th birthday when she died.
For reasons unbeknown to her family she was not buried beside her Beloved husband George.
Joyce was survived at the time of her death by her parents and 3 sisters Ella (Edward) Jerome, Gloria (Walter) Bedard all of Hallock, Minnesota, and Ester (Arden) Paulson of Karlstad, Minnesota.
