Daughter of Aaron D and Mary Turner Murphy. Her father was killed on November 8, 1862 during the Civil War. She was only a little over a year old at the time. She was a school teacher in Crawford County when she met and married the Rev. Hiram J. Jones on May 26, 1881 in Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois. After he retired they came out to California and purchased a farm in the Montague Valley in Agers, Siskiyou County, California. She was the mother of 9 children, one who died at the age of two. According to family members Sadie never cut her hair and when it was down it touched the floor. She wore it braided on top of her head. She had red hair, it never turned gray just faded.

AGED WOMAN DIES IN YREKA

Mrs. Sarah "Sadie" Murphy Jones, 85, a well known Montague resident died early this morning at Siskiyou County General Hospital where she had been a patient since April 18th. She had been in failing health for the past year.

Born July 21, 1861, in Robinson, Illinois, Mrs. Jones came to Montague with her husband Hiram J. Jones, retired Baptist Minister. Rev. Jones died in 1927.

Mrs. Jones, a devout Christian and an active church worker, had been a member of the Pentecostal Church in Siskiyou County for the past 20 years.

Since the death of her husband, she has made her home with two of her sons, Herbert and O.R. Jones of Montague.

In addition to those two sons, she is survived by two daughters Mrs. Mamie V. Willia of Montague and Mrs. Bertha Hayes of Richmond, California and five sons, Edgar C. Jones of Niagara Falls, New York; Raymond P. Jones of Sterling City, California; Paul B. Jones of Siletz, Oregon; Guy W. Jones and Gerald P. Jones both of Klamath Falls, Oregon. She also leaves one brother, Charles McDaniel of Robinson, Illinois; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm from the Assembly of God Church in Yreka of which she was a member, with Rev. William C. Jones officiating. Internment will be in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery.
