She was born on August 11, 1933 in Chateaugay, NY, a daughter of George and Maude (LaPlant) Bracy and was educated in Chateaugay Central Schools. On August 14, 1952, Dorothy was united in marriage to Watson R. "Watty" Hunkins, Sr. in Upper Jay, NY and shared a blessed union of 67 years until his passing on February 11, 2019. She was employed with Howard Johnson's in Old Forge as a server and moved up the ladder to hostess and retired as manager. Dorothy was also the bookkeeper for the family business, Hunkins Excavating. Dorothy was a Deacon and very involved with Niccoll's Memorial Presbyterian Church in Old Forge.
She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Dorothy took meticulous care of her flower beds and gardens. In the winter months, she alongside her husband traveled to Arizona to prospect in their family owned and operated gold mines. Dorothy was very well known for her beautiful cakes that she created for weddings and other family and friends events.
