Former University City Police Officer, DSN 238. Officer Castello resigned his commission and worked full time as a police department dispatcher for the same agency.

Castello, Jim passed away on Feb 25, 2022, with his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary Kay (nee Boehm), by his side. He was born May 7, 1953, to the late James (Joe) and the late Helen Castello, the youngest brother of the late Dean (Charlotte), the late Murrin (Blanca), Joellen (the late Larry), and Wayne (Mary). Jim and Kay met "in jail" of the University City Police Department when Kay took her summer camp kids on a tour of the police station and married in January of 1977. Jim and Kay have three incredible daughters, Kati, Patti, and Emily, three fantastic sons-in-law in Dave, Matt, and Max, and four absolutely beloved grandchildren, Ryan (13), Brooklynn (11), Dominic (11), and Ethan (6).

Jim always had a good story, no matter the situation. Most of the time, it involved his childhood and the antics of his brothers and sister. Sometimes, it involved his work as a police officer or dispatcher. You could always tell he was settling in for a whopper when he shifted his weight, crossed his arms and played with his shirt sleeves. Jim loved nothing more than a good night with his family and friends and laughing.

Jim had many joys in his life beyond his family. He cherished his red 1957 Chevy and was a long-time member of the Fabulous Fifties Car Club. He was a lifetime collector of comic books and spent many hours cataloging, restoring, selling, and buying, much to Kay's chagrin! After retiring from the U. City Police Department, Jim helped out in the dispatch center when needed. He cooked a mean burger on the grill, and occasionally, made things exciting with a flare up! He loved to bake and celebrate the smallest of victories in life. But what really made him happiest were holidays, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. Jim's love language was spoiling his wife and daughters, and nothing brought him more joy than seeing them happy. Later in life, he was incredibly excited to pass along his loves and interests to his grandchildren.

Jim took great pride in loving Kay, his daughters, the sons-in-law he considered not only sons, but friends, and his grandchildren. Jim was a dear brother-in-law, "outlaw", uncle, cousin and friend to so many. He was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Overland, volunteering his time and talents to many causes.

Services: Celebration of Life mass on Saturday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Overland, 8860 Tudor Ave, Overland preceded by a visitation at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, to continue the many good works around the community Jim so dearly loved.
