Obituary for Lee Allen Whitehurst
Lee Allen Whitehurst, 86, of Clear Lake, IA, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice, Mason City, IA.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:00am, Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Ward-Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, IA, with Pastor Al Berge and Pastor Steven Bang Officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Ward-Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, IA.

Lee was born on August 1, 1935 north of Ventura on the farm to Glenn and Evelyn (Benson) Whitehurst. At the age of one the family moved to Idaho, later returning to Iowa when he was at the age of 10. Lee graduated High School From Ventura Community School. In 1956 he married Marie "Mick" Casey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, from this union four children were born, Jay, Robin, Kris and Jim. Lee worked for Wonder Bread in route sales until the family moved to Tucson, AZ, where he then worked for Holsom Bakery in the same field. Eventually the family moved back to Clear Lake, IA, that is when Lee worked for Buttertopp Bakery for 35 years until his retirement. After retiring he drove for the Mason City Transit for 10 years.

He loved to travel, especially going on cruises. Lee and Mick enjoyed 37 cruises and made countless memories and friends on those adventures.

Those left to cherish memories of Lee are his wife of 65 years, Mick; children, Robin Nye, Kris (Alvaro) Mendoza, and James Whitehurst; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Whitehurst; grandchildren, Toni (Casey) West, Holly Mendoza, Tomas Mendoza, Cody Whitehurst, Jesse Whitehurst, Jacob (Amanda) Whitehurst, Josh Whitehurst, Cory (Amber) Nye, Casey (James) Dotzler, and Caleb (Amidy) Turek; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Taylor, Max, Brady, Emme, Sophie, JayLee, Reece, Joni, and Olivia.

Lee is preceded in death by his son, Jay Whitehurst; both of his parents, infant brother, Ronald; sister, Glenyce Detlefs; brother, James Whitehurst; siblings-in-law, Don Detlefs and Joan Whitehurst; and Mick's parents, Alfred and Gena Casey.
