Nicholas Howe, 76, Dies After Brief Illness.

Nicholas W. (Nick) Howe, 76, of 313 North D street, for 26 years a resident of Arkansas City, died at 12:30 o'clock this afternoon at the home, following a nine days illness. Bright's disease and leakage of the heart caused his death. He had not been in the best of health for several years, but was able to be out and about until a little more than a week ago. Mr. Howe was for a number of years in the employ of the Santa Fe in the water service department, on the Oklahoma division. He was a carpenter and worked at that trade for many years before and after coming to Arkansas City. Mr. Howe had for a number of years past been one of the assessors of the Arkansas City having been appointed to that offie from year to year by the county commissioners. He had received the appointment for this year and was to have begun work March 1. His duty was to assess the uptown business houses and the large industries, on personal property.

The widow and three sons survive. One son, Willard Howe resides in this city. Another resides in Sterling, Kans., and the third in Illinois. Arrangements for the funeral and burial had not been made. The Powell Mortuary in charge.
