"COLONIE -- Benjamin A. Abbate, 63, of Colonie, died Monday at his residence after a brief illness. Born and educated in Albany, he had resided in Colonie for 38 years. Mr. Abbate was a USMC veteran having served during the Korean conflict. He had been employed with the Research and Development Department of Albany International Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1993. Mr. Abbate had also worked part-time as a freight inspector with MTI. He was a Parent Advocate for Special Education of South Colonie Schools. He was a member of the Guilderland Elks and a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Santulli Abbate. Beloved father of Mrs. James (Theresa) Grant of Niskayuna, Mrs. John (Susan) Guillaume, Mrs. Anthony (Elaine) O'Rourke, Mrs. Ronald (Elizabeth) Rounds, all of Colonie; Mark Abbate of Atlanta, GA., William Abbate and his wife, Lynn; Mrs. Paul (Mary Catherine) Courtemanche of Schenectady and the late Michael Abbate and his wife, Janet; brother of Charles Abbate of Chestertown and Anthony Abbate of Colonie; grandfather of Dominick J., Maria and Vincent Catalfamo, Gina and Marilana Grant; Michael, Anthony, Ryan, Christian, Jessica, and Jaclyn Abbate; John, Michael, Cody Guillaume; Nicholas Courtemanche; Austin and Alyssa O'Rourke. Funeral Thursday morning at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-South of Central Ave.) thence to Our Lady of Mercy Church at a time to be announced. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 9 pm at the funeral home. Interment, Memory's Garden Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 315 S.
