George W. Nitz, 87, of 102 S. McEIroy St., Independence, died Thursday at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Nitz was a millwright for the Norris Grain Co. for 36 years before he retired in 1966. He was a member of the Beaumont Baptist Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Minnie Nitz of the home; two sons, Army Col. Robert Nitz, Honolulu, and Gene Nitz, Ellicott City, Md.; two brothers, Frank Nitz, Lakeland, Fla., and Frederick Nitz, Georgia; a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Vagher, Carbondale. Kan.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Carson Independence Chapel; burial in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
