Gladys Edith Marie Bell Vaughan, a graduate of Virginia Union University and a veteran teacher in Richmond public schools, passed away on December 31, 2007.
She was 89. She was born in Goochland, Virginia, the daughter of George and Mahala Bell.
A graduate of Armstrong High School in 1937, she earned a degree in elementary education from VUU in 1945. After continuing her studies at Columbia University in New York, she joined the Richmond public school system, where she taught for 40 years until her retirement.
She was a member of the First Unitarian Church, the National Association of University Women, and the Alpha Phi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
Longtime resident of Richmond, she is remembered lovingly by many members of the Trattner family, who had been close to her for most of her life and will miss her deeply.
Visitation held at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services held at Westhampton Memorial Park on January 3, 2008, at 2pm.
