Master Sergeant James O. "Jim" Lameka, 36, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away Monday, Oct. 11, 2004. He was born Nov. 30, 1967 in Chicago, Ill. He entered active Federal service in July 1985. Following the completion of Basic and Advanced Individual Training, MSG Lameka attended Airborne School prior to his first assignment as a Chemical Specialist with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. He later changed Military Occupational Specialties and spent the majority of his career as an Air Traffic Controller. MSG Lameka served tours in the Republic of Korea, Germany, Ft. Rucker, Ala. and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. At the the time of his death, MSG Lameka had served 10 months as the Battalion Operations Sergeant, assigned to HHC 1st Battalion (Attack), 25th Aviation Regiment, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. MSG Lameka was a SGT Morales and SGT Audie Murphy Inductee and his awards include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (5 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), the Korean Defense Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and is authorized wear of Senior Aviator Crewmember Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge and the Driver's Badge. MSG Lameka was a graduate of the Primary Leadership Develoment Course, the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, the Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course-Honor Graduate, and the Comabat Lifesaver and Emergency Medical Technician Courses. MSG Lameka completed an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and was a 1985 graduate of Cedartown High School. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur Tyson, Dorothy Tyson and Josephine Lameka. MSG Lameka is survived by: his wife, Jada; his children, Megan and Gage; his mother Ms. Charlotte Norton of Hawaii and his father, James F. Lameka of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Rhonda Irwin of Fort Irwin, Calif.; Tracy Burgman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Crystal Lameka of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, John Lameka of Cedartown, Joshua Lameka of Chicago, Ill. and grandfather, Walter Lameka of Chicago. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at Wimberly Hill Baptist Church with Mrs. Tracey Brugman, Mr. James F. Lameka, the Rev. Owen Bud Davis and the Lt. Colonel Dan Payne officiating. Pallbearers were: Brad Elder, Brad Dempsey, Jeffery Collier, Timmy Little, Rodney Little and Jeff Brugman. Interment followed at Polk Memory Gardens in Cedartown with full military rites conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard. The Honor Guard served as pallbearers at the gravesite. The Olin L.
