Josephine F. Goodnite, 89, of Piqua, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022.

She was born April 20, 1932 in Middleport to the late Charles and Elsie (Little) Smith.

She married Ira C. "Dale" Goodnite April 20, 1955 in Rutland; and he preceded her in death August 19, 1999.

Survivors include five children, James (Janice) Caruthers of Louisville, Becky (Dale) Kiener of Louisville, Terry (Jeannine Denson) Caruthers of Lilburn, Georgia, Debbie (Chris) Black of Piqua, Jeff Goodnite of Patriot; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Morris of Racine.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Smith, George Haddox; and a sister, Verda Johnson.

Mrs. Goodnite was a devout member of Calvary Bible Church in Arcanum. She worked as a machinist for the former Copeland Corporation for 29 years before her retirement. She was a hardworking and dedicated woman. She was a lover of animals and enjoyed watching the birds. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed feeding others, especially those in need. She was selfless and would always put the needs of others, especially her family, before her own. She enjoyed taking walks, collecting rocks, as well as shells from the beach. She was a talented poet and loved to write. She was a woman strong in her faith and enjoyed her church home. She will be deeply missed by those who love her.

A service to honor her life will begin at 11:00 am Thursday, March 17, 2022 with Pastor Bill Cornett officiating.

Private burial will be held at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cheshire, Ohio.
