Johanna was a beautiful, kind and loving wife, mother and very dear friend. She was born "Johanna M. Gracey Pirtle" and grew up in Osceola, Iowa.

She married her husband Michael and they had 4 children. In mid-life, Johanna moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1991 with 2 of her teenage daughters Kelly and Darby and her son Tim and opened a book store called "Spirit Flight", which was her dream. She worked as a counselor there for a few years while the children ran the store. She was a brilliant listener who opened her heart to others and gave her gentle advice. She truly understood and embraced others with unconditional love.

She closed the bookstore in 1997 and moved back to Colorado Springs with her husband Michael where she lived the next 10 years of her life. Her son Tim stayed in Santa Fe and he continues to prosper there.

Tragically, she had a stroke and before long, she passed away. She was survived by her husband, Michael L.; two sons, Timothy Michael and Casey Lane; and two daughters, Kelly Johanna Durie and Darby Devon Simmerman. She also left behind several amazing grandchildren.

Her sweet smile, lovely sky blue eyes, gentle nature and sincere compassion for others will be greatly missed. It would surprise her to know how many thousands of people have been touched and inspired by her words and deeds. She was a remarkable woman who had a powerful and loving spirit.
