LONE GROVE -- Services for Billy Charles Lyons, 56, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Gillum officiating. Interment, with full military honors conducted by the United States Army Color Guard, Fort Sill, will follow at Lone Grove City Cemetery.

Born Oct. 21, 1942, at Lone Grove to Otis L. "Ode" and Bess M. Howard Lyons, he died Feb. 26, 1999, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, March 22, 1984; and his mother, Oct. 31, 1997.

A lifelong resident of Lone Grove, Lyons graduated in 1960 from Lone Grove High School. In 1967 he entered the Untied States Army 1st Calvary Division Airmobile, serving in Vietnam from 1968 until 1969 and earning the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Bronze Star with V For Valor, Republic of Vietnam Air Medal and Gallantry Cross with silver star.

Lyons served as Carter County District 3 Commissioner from 1984 until 1990. He was then employed by Ellsworth Motor Freight Line as safety director from 1990 to 1998. Lyons was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4574 and served as past commander. He was also a member of the American Legion and a lifelong Democrat. Lyons was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Brian Burris, Lone Grove: three sons, Steve, and his wife, Lori, Sullivan, Coppell, Texas, Kip Lyons and Kevin Lyons, both Lone Grove; two sisters, Kathryn Hughes, of the home, and Litta Byrne, Oklahoma City; special extended family, Dale and Donna Gore, Ardmore; special friend, Carol Conners Lyons, Kansas City; and five grandchildren.

Bearers are Dale Gore, Kenneth Glenn, Gerald Orr, Don Young, Joe Carroll and James Yell. Honorary bearers are members of the VFW Post 4574.

Memorials may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, 1514 Meadow Lane, Ardmore, OK 73401.

Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
