JOE BRUCE, passed from his life on earth to his eternal life with his Lord, on September 20, 2003. He was born on May 25, 1931 in Mineola, Tx. He graduated from Big Sandy, TX and attended Texas A & M University. Before his retirement, he owned Specialty Mfg. & Construction and Joe Byrd Boring & Tunneling. He designed much of the equipment that he used in his long career in the Boring and Tunneling industry. He lived in Farmers Branch for 42 years where he was involved in the community and served on the City of Farmers Branch Planning and Zoning Board for over twenty years. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. A. and Bertha Dodson Byrd, brothers, Dell and Arnold Byrd. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Julia (Judy), sons Joe Russell, James and wife Susan, daughter, Janet and husband John McCarty, Grandson Pierce Colton Byrd, sister Jynelle and husband Billy Caffey, Aunt Dorotha Willis and Uncle Noble Byrd, many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend Freddie Free. Family will receive friends preceding and following the service at Mon., Sept 22, 2003, 10 am at the First Baptist Church, Farmers Branch, where Joe was a lone time member and deacon. Graveside service 4 pm at Sunset Memorial Park, Gilmer, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Farmers Branch, 13017 William Dodson Parkway, farmers Branch, TX 75234 or charity of choice.
