He discovered the electrodynamic principle and is considered the founder of modern electrical engineering.Ernst Werner von Siemens died at the age of 75, a week before his 76th Birthday. The "von" was added in 1888. Born in Lenthe, near Hanover, Germany. Mr. Siemens was famous for the invention of the telegraph and communication. "Werner," as he was widely known...was the oldest son of Eleonore and Christian Ferdinand Siemens, one of 14 children. Only two girls and 8 boys made it to adulthood, 4 died as youngsters. Two of his brothers later resided elsewhere, notable in their own works, Sir William Siemens of England and Carl von Siemens of St. Petersburg, Russia. Werner von Siemens was married twice, his first wife was Mathilde Siemens, they had two sons together, Arnold von Siemens and Georg Wilhelm Siemens. She died after several years. He then married Antonie Siemens, they had a son and daughter together, Carl Friedrich Siemens and Hertha Siemens.

Werner Siemens was a progressive entrepreneur through his technical innovations and daring business undertakings. He also was a popular politician in his time, a member of the Prussian State Assembly from 1862 to 1866. He was successful as a Scientist and Businessman. His brother Carl Siemens helped manage his Russian Telegraph Network that extended from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. From a workshop roughly laid out in his parents home as a youth to his Worldwide Corporation as an adult, he laid the groundwork for other inventors to improve on his inventions. He officially retired from the business in 1890, at the age of 73, two years before his death. He died in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin in Germany.
