FARMER IN COKE SLASHES THROAT
Verdict of Suicide in Death of Dan Byrne Who Leaves Widow and Eight Children.
BURIAL TUESDAY MORNING
Man Had Chased Child to River to Punish for Minor Offense When Act Was Committed.
Chagrined at being unable to catch one of his children, whom he intended to punish for a minor offense Dan Byrne, farmer, 45 years old, residing on the Mock ranch a half mile south of Robert Lee, slashed his throat with a razor about 8 o'clock Sunday night, according to telephone information from Robert Lee Monday. A. J. Taylor, justice of the peace, held an inquest late Sunday night at the Byrne home, and pronounced a verdict of suicide.
The body will be buried at Sanco some time Tuesday morning, according to funeral arrangements announced today. Mr. Byrne is survived by his widow and eight children.
Mr. Byrne had punished one child and had chased another to the river nearby. Returning to the house, it is reported he slashed his own throat, using a razor. He fell dying near the door of his home, having bled to death. His wife discovered his body, on hearing his dying struggles.
Mr. Byrne left no note explaining his act. Temporary derangement is thought by the family to have been the cause for his action.
