Gilbert was my great grandfather. He was born in St George Vt. He served in the Civil War, Co.L 1st reg. Vt Cavalry, 1862-1864. Captured July 1863 & was held at Belle Isle in the James River, VA. for 6 months.

He is survived by 4 sons, Irving Ernest, Harris Reuben, Sherman Gilbert, all of Vermont, and Arthur William Of Florida. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Andrew Lockwood in 1894 of CA. Also predeceased by his 1st wife Sarah Lockwood in 1866, and his 2nd wife Julia Ross in 1906.

Inscription
I visited this cemetery and could not find a stone with His name on it. However there are 57 stones that had the information lost in the 1927 flood.All paper records were also lost in this flood. Also it is very possible that no marker was ever placed on his grave.
The records of the U S Pension Agency show he was buried at this place.I have the receipt from the Undertaker, F.R.Pou & a receipt from Olin Waters for digging the grave, both of Pensacola FL. So there is no question that this is his correct burial site.
