Adele Zirk was the daughter of a pansy farmer from Caldwell Township, New Jersey. She worked in an aircraft plant in Caldwell and first discovered Oscar Zerk when she noticed the similarity of their last names in several of his patents that were used in the manufacture of airplanes. She wrote to Oscar and quickly a romance blossomed with the pair exchanging pictures and letters. Oscar traveled shortly after to Adele's home in New Jersey and personally asked her parents for their daughter's hand in marriage.

The wedding of Oscar Zerk and Adele Zerk was a fairytale wedding that made headlines all over the world. They were married at Oscar's historic home, "Dunmovin", on Cooper Road in Kenosha on April 26, 1944.

According to her obituary, in the early months of 1945, Adele's health became a growing concern as she withdrew from her regular activities. Sadly, Adele Zerk died from complications from childbirth shortly after the birth of their son on July 15, 1945. He died as well.
