Patriot and Military Figure. Of liberal sympathies, he fled to fight in the Greek war of independence. Back home, he studied mathematics at the University of Pavia before going into exile in Paris, where he took part in the riots of 1830 to 1831. There he met Giuseppe Mazzini and took part in the republican movement of June 5-6, 1832. Then he went to Portugal to fight among the Hunters of Porto of the Ligurian Gaetano Borso di Carminati, defending the liberal cause of Isabella Maria against Don Miguel. Then he went to Spain to enlist, with the rank of captain, in the "Foreign Legion of Christians" against the claimantr Don Carlos, being wounded for the second time. Repatriated in 1838, he was arrested upon his landing in Genoa and handed over to the Austrian police, who imprisoned him in Milan. Released, he expatriated, emigrating to South America, in the province of Rio Grande do Sul. There he met Giuseppe Garibaldi, with whom he formed a strong friendship and, when the Italian Legion was formed in Uruguay, he entrusted the command to Anzani. He contributed to the victory in the battle of San Antonio by building the fort at Salto and defending it from the Blancos until Garibaldi's arrival. Gravely ill, he sailed for Italy with Garibaldi and the faithful of the Legion on April 15, 1848, on the occasion of the amnesty granted by Pius IX. He died a few months after returning to his homeland.
