Ralph was born on February 5, 1922, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Lawrence and Cora Ovle (Gossman) Chesnut. He married Cressie Marcella Shamhart on July 31, 1948, in Olney, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2014.
Ralph had been a mechanic at Fehrenbacher Oldsmobile in Newton. He then farmed for many years and worked as a farm mechanic.
Ralph served his county in the United States Army during WWII. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery west of Latona, Illinois, with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion.
