Joe Sutton Dies Here After Long Sickness
Joe Vern Sutton, 2019 Ash, died at 12:30 o'clock this afternoon at his home after a lingering illness of several months. He had been bedfast for two months.
He came to Parsons in 1921 and worked for the Katy as car inspector until the strike of 1922 and later worked with the Humphrey Commission company and the Crystal Ice company.
He was born April 25, 1877 near Thayer and married Mary Conrad (sic) of that city Feb. 14, 1899. Six children were born. The surviving ones are Mrs. Ernest Scofield, Mrs. John Crockett, Mrs. Floyd Hall and Vern Sutton, all of Parsons and Homer Sutton of Denver. He farmed in the Thayer and Parsons communities before coming to Parsons.
Mrs. Sutton died Jan. 19, 1911 and in 1913 he married Martha A. Guy of Thayer at Erie, March 11, 1913.
Besides the widow and children and five grandchildren, he is survived by three brothers, M. T. Sutton, Canon City, Colo.; F. L. Sutton, Thayer, and C. B. Sutton, British Honduras, and three sisters, Mrs. Ida Thompson, Thayer, Mrs. E. E. Nelson, Denver and Mrs. M. W. Shidler, Garden City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the Rude funeral home where the body will lie in state.
