She was in her 81st year.
Joyce was born in Senatobia, Mississippi, March 5, 1941, to Johnnie and Ruby Walters.
She graduated high school in Levelland.
Joyce worked for many years as an award winning representative for Mary Kay and a saleswoman for National Farm Life Insurance Company, as well as, owning a successful business VanNess Sales & Bookkeeping in Levelland.
In fact, one of her last comments before her death was to call her tax clients and let them know she would be closed this weekend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Esch in 1981; and recently by her husband, Jarl VanNess, whom she married in 1986.
Loving mother to James Duane Esch of Denver City and Robby Esch of Carrollton and step-mother to Jencey VanNess and Coy VanNess.
Proud "Nanny" to seven grandchildren: Dustin VanNess, Ashlee Sehon, Caydn VanNess, Raven Crenshaw, Jada Esch, Cory Esch and Brett Esch; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Bush and Breelan Sehon.
Joyce had four sisters whom she loved and cared for deeply.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Camp of San Antonio; and was preceded in death by three sisters: Lilly Huddleston, Thema Williams and Louise Daniels Jennings.
She was also "Aunt Joyce" to numerous and dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Joyce's life will be celebrated by family and friends at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at the 13th & K Church of Christ of Levelland.

In the few days since her death, it is clear to her family how her clients were her extended family. They have texted and called with messages about what a wonderful help she was to them in times of need, both financially and emotionally.
Her legacy is her family and her love of the residents of Levelland, whom she served in innumerable albeit unassuming ways.
