Ichabod was named in the division of the estate of his father, John Allen, as the "third son" and was given six acres by the Probate court of New London County, Connecticut.

In 1732 Ichabod was recorded as selling those same 6 acres he inherited from his father's estate to his brother John Allen.

On 2 Jun 1734 Ichabod was baptized as an adult at the First Congregational Church at Groton, and was admitted as a full member the same day. His daughter Hannah was also baptized there 11 Jan 1735/6.

Baptist minister and Pastor of the Separate Baptist Church at Colchester, Hartford, Connecticut from 1751 to 1774. Ichabod was also a carpenter, joiner, and a student of medicine.

All three of Ichabod's sons enlisted in support of the Colonies during the Revolution.

Married Mary Lynn about 1730, probably at Groton, and together were parents to:
- Mary Allen
- Hannah Allen

After Mary's death, Ichabod married Elizabeth Rogers 25 January 1748/9 at New London, Connecticut and together were parents to:

- Ichabod Allen
- Malachi Allen
- Lydia Allen
- Eleazer Allen
