Son of William Henry Neville Abbott and Annie Elizabeth Abbott.

After landing at Rabaul and being captured by the Japanese, he was later taken aboard the Japanese auxiliary transport ship Montevideo Maru for transport to Hainan Island where those aboard would be used as slave labour. Around eight days into the voyage the Montevideo Maru was spotted by the USS Sturgeon an American submarine patrolling the area for Japanese shipping. The Sturgeon torpedoed the ship and sunk her. Over 1000 military personnel and civilians aboard lost their lives as a result of the attack.
