PIONEER ORIENT ENGINEER DIES

Hugh H. Rodman Succumbs as Railway Is Fighting for Existence

Death laid his hand over the eyes of Hugh H. Rodman. Viola, one of the first engineers of the Orient railway, and probably saved him the painful sight of seeing the road to which he had given 20 years of service go to the junk pile. Mr. Rodman, who was 59 years old, died Monday morning.

The engineer guided the destiny of Orient trains for several years when his health gave way. He lived at 538 North Emporia. Unwilling to give up his service to the road, he took the job of pump man and was stationed at Viola. He was a member of Wichita consistory No. 2. Harper A. F. and A.M., Knights and Ladies of Security, Wichita Lodge No. 120 and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He is survived by the widow; Pearl his parents Mr. and Mrs. Marion Rodman; a daughter, Mrs. A. W. Robbins of Cheney. Mo.; three sons, Berton H. of Kansas City; Ted R. of Portland. Ore.; and Hugh H., Jr., of Viola; and two brothers and two sistres.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Wichita Undertaking company has charge.
