J. C. Caldwell, who has for some years worked, at intervals, as a carriage painter in McDonald Bro's. shop, in this city, as well as in that of R. E. Morse, Auburn, and other places, died suddenly at the Monroe House, last night, largely from the effects of dissipation, it is believed. He fell from a buggy a week ago, but received no serious injury, though since confined to his bed, up to the time of his death. He was about 30 years of age, and, so far as known, had no relatives nearer than Cincinnati, where his father lives. Though entirely without means the deceased received the best of care and attention during his sickness. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 4-19-1875
