Guadalupe F. Alvarado, 86, of Galesburg, died peacefully at 3:15 p.m. Thursday October 20, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.

Lupe was born May 31, 1930 in Watsonville, CA, the son of Primitibo R. and Loreto Fonseca Alvarado. He married Isidora Chavarria on July 29, 1956 in Francisco y Madero, Coahuila, Mexico. Lupe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Isidora of Galesburg; 8 sons, Miguel G. (Sanjuanita) Alvarado, Pablo (Cynthia) Alvarado, Jose Guadalupe C. Alvarado, Juan Manuel C. Alvarado, Estevan C. (Linda) Alvarado, Cesario C. Alvarado all of Galesburg, Jose Luiz C. (Colette) Alvarado of Gilson, and Antonio C. (Ginny) Alvarado of Springfield, OH; 2 daughters, Bernardina C. Alvarado-Rubio and Teresa C. Alvarado-Ward both of Galesburg: two sisters, Teresa (Marcos) Alberto of Mexico, and Angela(Wakeen) Yount of Utah; and a special niece, Amalia (Michael) Alberto-Bailey all of Galesburg; 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Ignacio; and one grandson, James Alvarado.

Lupe worked 38 years as a section foreman for C.B.&Q. and later for Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way; NRA, and the North American Hunting Club. He was an avid gardener, loved hunting, especially deer, music, dancing, and singing. Lupe had a love for feeding the squirrels in his yard.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg. Rev. William T. Miller, IC will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Shrine of St. Jude, Chicago; Corpus Christi Catholic Church; and the Association of the Miraculous Medal, Missouri.
