Sister Catherine Regina Frebis, a devoted life
Sister Catherine Regina Frebis devoted her life to God as a teacher for 57 years.
A member of the Congregation of Divine Providence, Melbourne, she died on Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood, at age 74.
Born and raised in Ripley, Ohio, Sister Catherine Regina entered St. Anne Convent in Melbourne in 1945. She took her first vows in August 1950 and final vows in August 1955.
Sister Catherine Regina's teaching career spanned 57 years. She was a dedicated and devoted educator in elementary schools located in West Virginia and Kentucky. She began teaching at St. Michael School in Wheeling, W.Va., for four years, then moved on to several Kentucky schools including St. Bernard School, Dayton; St. Joseph School, Camp Springs; St. Aloysius School, Covington; Holy Family School, Ashland; and St. Joseph Academy, Walton.
From 1968 to 1988, and also from 2005 to 2007, Sister Catherine Regina taught at St. Camillus Academy in Corbin. She was also the principal of St. Julian School in Middlesboro from 1990 to 2005.
Survivors include brothers, Thomas Frebis, Richard Frebis, and Ronald Frebis.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anne Convent Sacred Heart Chapel, Melbourne. Visitation will begin there at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Anne Convent Cemetery, Melbourne.
