She was born February 2, 1886, in Peoria, a daughter of William and Fredericka Holtke. She spent her childhood in the Dunlap area and attended the Potter school.
She was united in marriage to Ervin Stephens in the home of her parents March 22, 1905, by Rev. Leach. They started housekeeping on the Cutright farm near Princeville and Lawn Ridge. In 1928, they moved to Wady Petra and made their home for the next 13 years, before moving to Wyoming in 1941, where she made her home the rest of her lifetime. After the death of her husband, she made her home with her daughter.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edna Verschage of Wyoming and Mrs. Lois Wickblom of Cambridge, two sons, Howard of St. Louis and Wilbur of Wyoming; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two step-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Elsie Callahan of Peoria, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband February 17, 1958, and by 11 brothers and sisters.
She was a member of Wyoming Congregational Church, Order of Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbors.
Funeral services were held in the Cox Memorial Home with burial in the Princeville Cemetery. Rev. Joseph Carroll of the Wyoming Congregational Church officiated.
Pallbearers were William Greene, Joel Johnson, Harry Hall, William Robb, Lyman Cox and Howard Ogburn. Interment was in the Princeville Cemetery.
