Pinkney Madison Hairston was the son of Thomas Oscar Hairston and Matilda Martha Elizabeth Moore Hairston.

Pinkney served in Company B, 41st Georgia Infantry CSA as a private. He enlisted March 4, 1862 in Marietta, Georgia and served for three years. He was captured and paroled at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863. His unit was stationed at Camp McDonald, Kennesaw, Cobb County, Georgia.

On October 14, 1869, Pinkney married Julia Catherine Wallis of Cobb County, GA. They had eleven children: Elmer Josiah, Matilda Estelle, Ida Lou, Olive Roberta (Ollie), Ina Mildred, Pearlie Mae, George Clifton, Julia Catherine, Madison Palmer (Pal), Mattie Lela, and Kate Hairston.

P.M. Hairston was a respected farmer and member of New Salem Baptist Church in Cobb County, GA. He died on Confederate Memorial Day.
Pinkney Madison Hairston was the son of Thomas Oscar and Matilda C. Moore Hairston.

P.M. Hairston served in the Confederate States of America in Company B., 41st Georgia Infantry as a private. On March 4, 1862, he enlisted at Camp McDonald, Big Shanty, (now Kennesaw), Cobb County, Georgia for three years. On July 4, 1863, Pinkney was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi and was paroled on July 6, 1863 in which he signed an oath to not take up arms against the United States. (Pink's brother's, Oliver and Thomas Hairston and cousins served in this same company and unit.)

On October 14, 1869, P.M. Hairston married Julia Catherine Wallis in Cobb County, GA. (Cobb County Marriage Book A., 1865-1876, p. 239). They were married by W.H. Campbell, M.G. at the residence of Josiah Wallis, Julia's father.

According to family records, right after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hairston moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee and lived there for two years before returning to Marietta and living at the Josiah Wallis place. After Josiah Wallis's death, they took over the home place and it was then known as the "Hairston Place" for the next 100 years.

Later, Pink and Julia had ten children: Elmer Josiah, Matilda Estelle "Essie", "Ida" Lou, Olive Roberta "Ollie", Ina Mildred "Midge", Pearlie Mae (died in infancy 1882), George Clifton, Julia Catherine "Kate", Madison Palmer "Pal", and Mattie Leila "Lelia" Hairston.

P.M. Hairston was a respected farmer and member of New Salem Baptist Church in Cobb County, GA. He died on Confederate Memorial Day.

MR. P.M. HAIRSTON
Mr. P.M. Hairston, of Dyson Place, Marietta, died late Monday after a short illness. He was 77 years of age, and a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the New Salem Church, with the Rev. Geo. Crowe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by two sons, Geo. C. and M.P. Hairston, six daughters and one brother, living in Oklahoma. Black Undertaking Company in charge of the arrangements.

The sad news reached here last Tuesday of the death of Mr. P.M. Hairston, of Marietta. He was only sick a few hours. His death was a great shock to the entire community. He was 77 years old and had spent the greater part of his life in Cobb County, being a member of the New Salem Baptist Church. He had a sunny disposition and was loved by all who knew him. The entire family have our sympathy.
