A renown artist and architect, 1900 found Haenke working as an architect in Toowoomba, Australia, partnered with his brother William Martyn Haenke. He also worked in Launceston as an artist and worked with J & T Gunn designing the 23-room extension of the Launceston Hotel. Haenke's masterpiece is said to be the Art Nouveu interior he designed for the Stores and Offices for the Tasmanian Woolgrowers Agency in Launceston which openend in 1905. Later in 1905 Haenke moved to California where he became very well known. Haenke designed the 76' by 18' gates that guard the entrance to Fremont Place, one of Los Angeles' most prestigious neighborhoods. In 1912 he teamed with W.J. Dodd and along with Dodd and Julia Morgan, they designed the Los Angeles ‘Herald Examiner' newspaper building in downtown Los Angeles. In addition Haenke designed a number of commercial buildings in the Los Angeles area. Haenke was at one time partnered with Edward G. Garden and they shared an office in San Francisco's Balboa Building.Mother's Maiden Name: Miller
