Fourth of ten children of Rev. Valentine Wightman, pioneer Baptist minister in Groton, Connecticut, and his wife Susannah Holmes, who was a great granddaughter of Rev. Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island.
In 1737 Abraham married Susannah Stark in Lebanon, Connecticut. He was a farmer in the western part of Norwich which in 1786 was set off as the Town of Bozrah.
He owned land in Lebanon, Connecticut and Herkimer County, New York, where five of his sons moved after the Revolution.
1796 was still farming in Bozrah at age 85.
