A. J. Brooks Dies at 70; Was Forester
TORRINGTON — Arthur J. Brooks, 70, of 25 Hoerle Blvd., a former state forester, was dead on arrival Monday night in charlotte Hungerford Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken ill at home.

Born in Hartford, he moved to Torrington in 1914, and to Barkhamsted in 1934. He returns to Torrington in 1968. He was superintendent from 1933 to 1939 at Camp Toumey in Cornwall under the civilian Conservation Program. he went to Barkhamsted in 1939 as a forester for the state Park and Recreation Commission, a position he held until he retired in 1968.

He was secretary and a charter member of Barkhamsted Lions Club, a past officer of the Farmington Valley Stamp Club, a past officer of the Farmington Valley Stamp Club, a former commissioner of the Barkhamsted boy Scouts, and the first president of Pleasant Valley Volunteer fire Department.

He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Veronesi of Torrington.
