Ellen married Nathan in 1925 she was 15 and he was 22.They had 6 children, Ray, Letha, Betty, Audrey, Charles and Patsy. They were married for 66 years. She wrote many poems and a few songs under the name Stone County Rose. She wrote a weekly column in the Mtn Grove News Journal for 40 years, mostly reporting on the Willow Springs FWB Church. She had at the time of her death 18 grandchildren and 23 great granchildren.
