A native of Jackson County, where he had lived most of his life, he was a retired from the DOT in the landscape division. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Wesleyan United Methodist Church.
He was the son of the late Herman William and Anna V. Tatham Ashe, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Emily, Mozella and Evelyn Ashe; and two brothers, James and Bill Ashe.
Surviving are one daughter, Debbie Ashe, of Sylva; son, Mike Ashe, of Sylva; brother, Joe Ashe, of Sylva; the children's mother, Clara Henson, of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Tricia Ashe, Michelle Ashe, Mike Ashe Jr. and Becky Ashe.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at MeltonRiddle Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating.
Burial will be in Ashe Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the William E. Dillard American Legion Post 104.
