Jack L. Anderson, age 89, of Russellville, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at his home.

He was born February 4, 1915, at Mulberry, Kansas, a son of the late Harry and Irene Bach Anderson. He was a Division Vice-President of Safeway Grocery Stores chain, starting his career in 1936. During his tenure in the Kansas City Division, he was awarded the Honorary American Farmer Degree at the national Future Farmers of America convention in Kansas City, Missouri. It is the highest degree given by the FFA to adults who have given outstanding service to the over 50,000 member organization for students preparing for agriculture careers. He was President of the Kansas City, Missouri Kiwanis Club, a former member of the Kansas City, Missouri Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the Kansas City Philharmonic Association, and a former Board member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Kansas City. He was a graduate of Arkansas Polytechnic College(now Arkansas Tech University), a member of the Little Rock Kiwanis Club, the Russellville Country Club, the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock, where he was an avid golfer, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Russellville. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Chivers Anderson, a brother, Harry Anderson and a sister, Ruth Hunt.

Survivors include his wife, Ferne Shinn Anderson; a daughter, Jacquelyn Croft of Overland Park, Kansas; two sisters, Marcella Peeler of Russellville and Dora Mae Anderson of North Little Rock; two grandchildren, Suzanne Hagen of Scottsdale, Arizona and John Croft of Kennesaw, Georgia; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Lauren Hagen of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Funeral service will be 2 P. M., Tuesday, April 20, at Shinn Chapel, with Rev. Mackey Yokem and Rev. Matthew Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery by Shinn Funeral Service.

The family will receive friends from 1 P. M., until service time, Tuesday afternoon, at the funeral home.
