Prinz Welf von Hannover was a follower of the guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his Rajneesh movement. He took the name Swami Anand Vimalkirti (The Blessed One - The Celebration).

He died of an aneurysm in 1981 while residing on an ashram in Pune (Poona) in India and was cremated in keeping with his spiritual beliefs. The cremation ceremony was attended by his parents.

His ashes were originally interred at a memorial in the ashram in Pune (Poona), but were later removed to the Rajneeshpuram in Antelope, Wasco County, Oregon. Incorporated as a city between 1981 and 1988, its population consisted entirely of Rajneeshees, followers of the spiritual teacher Rajneesh, later known as Osho. The community collapsed as a result of its involvement in a 1984 bioterror attack. Their property was sold at a sheriff's auction in late 1988 to Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, the sole bidder.

The ashes of the decedent are reported to have been scattered.
